Discipline

Which subject the call is open to. “All disciplines” means the funder's page names none of these subjects; those entries appear under every pick. Where the page names a subject this list cannot carry, its own wording stands beside the badge — nothing filters on it.

• Communication sc. — The funder's page names communication or media studies explicitly.
• Clinical/health — The funder's page names clinical research, medicine or health research explicitly.
• Neuroscience — The funder's page names neuroscience explicitly.
• Educational science — The funder's page names educational science or education research explicitly.
• All disciplines — The funder's page names no subject from this list. Those entries appear under every pick; what the page itself says about the subject stands beside it where there is one.

Career stage

The four steps of the European research career, R1 to R4, plus ORG for calls only an institution or a consortium can apply to. What each step means is on the button itself. Entries with no stage stated appear under every pick.

• R1 · students and doctoral candidates — Before the doctorate: students and doctoral researchers.
• R2 · recognised researchers — After the doctorate and not yet leading independently.
• R3 · established researchers — Running your own project or group.
• R4 · leading researchers — Recognised as a leader in your field.
• ORG · organisations and consortia only — An institution or a consortium applies, not an individual.

Deadline

Where the submission deadline stands. “expired” and “discontinued” are hidden to begin with and can be switched on here.

• rolling — Applications are accepted at any time.
• open — The submission deadline is still ahead.
• unclear — The funder's page states no clear deadline.
• expired — The last known deadline has passed. Hidden by default.
• discontinued — The programme no longer exists. Hidden by default.

Seat

For conferences the venue, for funding the funder's seat — always by the country the source itself names. Each country counts exactly once: Austria, Germany and Switzerland on their own, everything else under Rest of the EU or Europe (non-EU). Only Online counts on top, for conferences held fully or partly online. Several picks in this row combine as any-of; with none the whole list applies.

• Austria — Only entries whose venue or seat is in Austria.
• Germany — Only entries whose venue or seat is in Germany.
• Switzerland — Only entries whose venue or seat is in Switzerland.
• Rest of the EU — Only entries in an EU member state other than Austria and Germany.
• Europe (non-EU) — Only entries in European countries outside the EU and Switzerland, such as the United Kingdom or Norway.
• Outside Europe — Only entries whose venue or seat is outside Europe.

Stay

Where the funded work happens. If the funder's page says nothing about it the entry carries nothing — it then only appears while nothing is picked here.

• Outgoing — Funds a stay outside Austria.
• Incoming — Brings researchers into Austria.
• National — Funds research at Austrian institutions.
• Open — Allows several directions.

Which country an applicant must be based in. Entries with no country condition, and EU-wide programmes, appear under every pick.

• Austria — For applicants at Austrian institutions. This is the view the page opens with.
• Germany — Also for applicants at German institutions. Preliminary and very incomplete.
• Switzerland — Also for applicants at Swiss institutions. Preliminary and very incomplete.
• EU — Applying from another EU country: only entries open EU-wide or without a residence rule.
