The Austrian province of Carinthia funds science and research mainly through its cultural funding scheme (Carinthian Culture Funding Act): the science strand, focused on the cultural, social and natural sciences, provides subsidies for publications, scientific events and conference attendance as well as research and digitisation projects with a Carinthia connection. The province also awards prizes for academic theses (digitalisation scholarship, Europa Prize). Carinthia runs no dedicated science fund of its own; business and innovation funding is handled separately and is not covered here.

“The funding focus lies in the cultural, social and natural sciences” (close translation — the page is German only).

It covers production-cost subsidies for scholarly publications with specialist publishers, grants for organising and attending conferences and symposia, research and digitisation projects, and the ongoing scientific work of institutions. Projects need a Carinthia connection and proven scientific qualification; contract research and university theses are excluded (a printing subsidy is possible once a thesis is published).
