About ResearchRadar.at

ResearchRadar is an automatically generated directory of research funding and academic conferences open to researchers based in Austria: grants, scholarships and prizes from federal, state, institutional, foundation and EU sources – and the meetings of European learned societies, ordered by the deadline for submissions. The subjects covered are psychology, communication science, clinical and health research, neuroscience and educational science. Entries are derived from the funding institutions' and the societies' own websites and checked daily for anything new. With a free account you get an e-mail as soon as something new appears.

Open to researchers in Austria

The scope is defined by accessibility, not by where a funder is based: ResearchRadar lists funding open to researchers in Austria – from Austrian institutions, from EU programmes, and from foreign funders whose calls are open to researchers in Austria as well (for example the DGPs). Funding that is not open to researchers in Austria is not listed here. Every entry states which country an applicant must be based in, in the words of the funder's own page. Germany and Switzerland are preliminary there and very incomplete – the focus is on Austria.

Conferences

Besides the funding, ResearchRadar carries the meetings of European learned societies. They are ordered by the deadline for submissions, not by when the event takes place — that is the difference between a radar and a calendar. Where an event listing states no deadline there is none here, and the event date decides the order instead. The scope is narrow and growing: five subjects, events taking place in Europe or online.

How far the three areas are covered

Unevenly, and that belongs on this page: psychology has been covered longest and is the densest. Communication science and clinical and health research were added later and are still much thinner – funding that exists is certainly missing there. The directory keeps growing. How the directory is made

The directory is generated automatically: entries are derived from the funding institutions' websites, and every detail comes from the funder's own pages. An automated check visits those pages daily and notices when a funder publishes a new call. Where the website does not state a detail, this directory shows “see website”.

Amounts are quoted exactly as the funder states them, including on the English pages. Nothing is translated or converted, because that would put a figure here that the funder's own page does not state.

The discipline says which subject a programme is open to — psychology, communication science, clinical and health research, neuroscience, educational science, or “all disciplines” when the funder's page names none of them. Like every other detail it comes from that page and is not a judgement made by ResearchRadar. Where a page names a subject this list cannot carry, its own wording stands beside the badge — “education research”, “economics” — and nothing filters on it. Up to version 1.67 a “psychology relevance” stood here; that was such a judgement, which is why it is gone.

The career stage is quoted as the funder's own page states it and stays empty where the page states none — empty means “the page does not say”, which is why such an entry appears under every stage pick rather than under none.
