Public-law foundation established in 1991 by Maria Schaumayer — then President of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the world's first woman to head a central bank — on her 60th birthday. Its purpose is to advance women's careers in business and science, in particular scientific research and achievements by Austrian women. The foundation awards prizes twice a year for completed scientific works graded excellent; more than 1,300 women have received awards since its foundation.

Prizes awarded twice a year for completed scientific works by women: master's or diploma thesis, doctoral dissertation, or habilitation (no bachelor's theses). The work must be no older than three semesters, graded "excellent" by all reviewers, and not previously awarded elsewhere. Austrian citizenship is required; in exceptional cases, EU citizens with their main residence in Austria and particularly close ties to the country may apply. Open to all disciplines — the 2025 award winners include a psychology master's thesis on mindfulness and relaxation exercises. Submission is online with the thesis, a German abstract, CV, transcript, and reviewer reports.
