OeAD

The Austrian-African Research Network Africa-UniNet was initiated by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research (BMFWF) and launched by the OeAD and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). Its objective is to create a long-term, stable basis for cooperation between Austrian and African universities and research institutions and to provide opportunities for joint research projects. Funding is awarded in calls: in the framework of the 6th call, 20 cooperative research projects between institutions in Austria and in African countries were accepted for funding. Africa-UniNet is funded by the BMFWF.

The Aktion Austria-Czech Republic supports scientific exchange between Austria and the Czech Republic and the learning of the neighbouring country's language. It awards scholarships for stays in the Czech Republic to prepare diploma, doctoral or habilitation theses, and scholarships for research or teaching stays for university lecturers. Anyone studying or working at an eligible institution in Austria may apply; there is no age limit. Stays last 1 to 5 months depending on the target group.

The Aktion Austria-Hungary supports scientific exchange between Austria and Hungary and the learning of the neighbouring country's language. Different scholarships for students, lecturers and researchers as well as project funding are intended to increase bilateral cooperation. The target country is Hungary; stays last from 3 days to 9 months depending on the target group and can be extended in certain cases. It is run by the OeAD on behalf of and financed by the Stiftung Aktion Austria-Hungary.

The ASEAN-European Academic University Network supports the exchange of knowledge between partner universities in Europe and South East Asia. Its main activity is the organisation and financial support of transcontinental exchange of (prospective) scientists. It funds bilateral and multilateral projects in research, research-led teaching and the arts; projects run for up to 24 months and a single mobility lasts from a few days to 3 months. At least one ASEA-UNINET member university in Austria has to be the lead partner and one in the ASEAN country the cooperating partner.

A multilateral exchange programme with central, eastern and south-eastern Europe: students and teaching staff apply for a funded stay in one of the participating countries. Mobility happens within networks at faculty and institute level; outside a network, freemover stays are possible in individual cases. Stays from three days (excursions) to ten months are funded.

Scholarship for international researchers for a research stay of 1 to 9 months at Austrian universities and research institutions (main programme "worldwide"; further variants incl. universities of applied sciences and ASEA-UNINET).

The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet (EPU) was established in 2000 to create an educational network for universities and universities of applied sciences in Austria and educational institutions in East Asia, Central Asia–Caucasus and South Asia–Pacific. It comprises partners from all scientific fields and supports projects in research, research-based teaching and art as well as technology cooperations. Among other things it provides seed funding for initiating multilateral research. The target group is researchers at EPU member institutions from ongoing doctoral studies onwards; funding runs for 12 months.

The ministry-funded programme supports application-oriented cooperation projects between Austrian higher education and research institutions and institutions in countries of the Global South. The aim is to contribute to analysing and solving local challenges and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Eligible costs are mobility and material expenses in the context of 1-3 year research projects in all scientific disciplines. Eligible to apply are researchers (postdocs) at Austrian universities and non-university research institutions as well as at institutions in countries of the Global South according to the DAC list of the OECD.

The JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers) is offered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. It enables young scientists and university lecturers at Austrian universities to spend a research period in Japan. The stay lasts 12 to 24 months. The funding organisation is the Japanese government.

To promote junior researchers and scientific cooperation, scholarships are offered for a stay at Taiwanese universities. The stay lasts a maximum of one month. Preference is given to applications that serve to prepare joint projects between Austrian and Taiwanese educational institutions; the scholarship serves to establish contacts for future cooperation in research and teaching. The programme is run by the OeAD on behalf of and financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research.

To promote junior researchers and scientific cooperation, scholarships are offered for a stay at Taiwanese universities. The stay lasts 1 to 4 months. Students at Austrian higher education institutions who are actively studying (at least five ECTS credits in the past semester) or active in research are eligible to apply. The programme is run by the OeAD on behalf of and financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research.

The Scientific & Technological Cooperation is based on inter-governmental and bilateral agreements. It funds research visits within concrete scientific cooperation projects with researchers from a partner country; the basic funding of the research project must be secured from other sources. Eligible to apply are researchers at Austrian universities and non-university research institutions working in basic research. Calls are usually held every two years per partner country, and projects run for 24 months.
