It holds one annual conference, invests in supporting mid-level academic staff through prizes and events, and has published the journal Studies in Communication Sciences since 2007.

Saxer Award für die beste Präsentation an der SGKM-Jahrestagung New
SGKM
Communication sc.
At its annual conference the SGKM awards a prize for members of the academic mid-level staff in memory of Prof. Ulrich Saxer, the society's first president. It carries Fr. 500 per contribution and honours a contribution of outstanding quality presented at the conference. A jury weighs the review of the submitted conference paper and the assessment of the talk itself equally.
Next deadline: unclear
Deadline: The rules state no deadline of their own — candidacy follows from the conference contribution itself. The prize is handed over at the SGKM annual conference.
Funding amount: Fr. 500 pro Beitrag
Target group: Members of the academic mid-level staff who present a contribution at the SGKM annual conference; the rules count someone holding only a fixed-term professorship as belonging to that group too. There is no separate application: every individual and collective contribution at the conference whose first author is a member of the mid-level staff is automatically a candidate. The rules state no condition about nationality or country of institution.

SGKM-Dissertationspreis New
SGKM
Communication sc.
The SGKM calls annually for applications to its prize for outstanding dissertation projects in communication and media studies. Since 2019 the prize has carried Fr. 3000. Completed dissertations may be submitted if they were graded at least magna cum laude and were written by Swiss researchers or by researchers at Swiss higher-education institutions. A summary of the winning dissertation is published in the journal Studies in Communication Sciences.
Next deadline: unclear
Deadline: The application deadline falls in December each year. The most recently published call named 30 December 2025; no deadline for the next round is on the page yet.
Funding amount: Fr. 3000
Target group: Members of the academic mid-level staff in or from Switzerland who completed their dissertation project in communication and media studies within the past twelve months. The call states three conditions: the dissertation must have been written by Swiss researchers or by researchers at Swiss higher-education institutions, it needs a grade of at least magna cum laude, and applying requires SGKM membership. Neither the page nor the call states any condition about where the applicant works today.
