The ÖGK is the professional society and representative body for media and communication studies and practice in Austria. It publishes the journal Medien Journal and runs the biennial Kommunikationswissenschaftliche Tage (KWT) conference. It calls annually for applications to its research grant for media and communication research in Austria.

The Austrian Communication Association calls annually for applications to its grant of up to €2,000 for media and communication research and networking activities on any topic. Collaborative projects aiming at a joint publication and involving researchers at several Austrian sites are preferred; single-researcher projects and projects at one site are possible too. The money may be spent on work contracts, method instruments and software, the cost of empirical studies and their analysis, or travel to networking meetings. Funded projects are honoured with an award at the society's Kommunikationswissenschaftliche Tage conference.

Deadline: Submissions are possible on a rolling basis; the cut-off date for submissions this year is 31 July 2026.

Funding amount: bis zu 2.000,- Euro

Target group: Researchers in media and communication studies with a research project in Austria. At least one applicant must be in the qualification phase towards a doctorate or a habilitation. Applying requires individual ÖGK membership — of the applicant, or of at least one applicant or team member. Reading the call requires no membership; it is freely available.
