FWF ASTRA Awards

Career funding that the FWF launched in July 2024 to attract and retain particularly talented researchers in international competition, giving advanced postdocs in Austria the opportunity to make the leap to the top of their research field. It is aimed at successful, internationally visible researchers from all disciplines, including arts-based research, who already have experience with independent research work (R3 level). The awards offer the conditions needed to conduct long-term research projects at a top international level, consolidate an individual research profile and acquire the qualifications for academic leadership positions: from €500,000 up to a maximum of €1 million for a period of five years, with an expected 18 award winners per call. Half of the awards are given to women; the programme also includes a tenure package, career coaching and networking measures, and child allowances.
